Soggy Mail

It's tornado season here in Ohio.  This means torrential rain, crazy wind, hail, thunder, lightning, the occasional tornado, but worst of all... soggy mail!  Oh the humanity!  My poor wet postcards!

Seriously though, today was one of those nervous, anxious days of watching the weather radars because we had a tornado watch and warning... again.  This is bad because tornados are deadly here in Ohio just like all through "Tornado Alley" in the US.  Last year 8 people died in a tornado that went through less than a mile from my home.  We were not here at the time so thank goodness.

The first 3 cards were received yesterday, May 24th, so they stayed nice and dry...

DE-918983 - What a beautiful photo of the castle in Braunschweig, Germany!!  It scanned so well too... I love it when that happens.  :o)

The John Lennon Memorial in New York City, New York.  This is not a postcard but a regular card I received yesterday as a direct swap from England.  I include it because I love John Lennon!  :o)  Do I need another reason?

Private swap from Russia... Cutie Bear!!

And now the soggy cards received today, May 25, 2011...

DE-917592... the text says "One of the bathing people is completely naked since his swimsuit is gone.  Do you spot him?"  This is the cutest card ever!  I loved looking at all the little characters on it.

US-1090699... The College Farm at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina... darling piggy tails!  Isn't the US Postal Service nice to let this come to me without the extra penny?  Postcards cost 29 cents to mail now.  Booooo!

Received May 18-19-20

I received 2 cards last Wednesday, May 18th...

From Japan, JP-168506... The Southern Cross from Kenji Miyazawa's fantasy novel "Night of the Milky Way Railway".  I'll have to check it out since I love Japanese stories, anime, manga, etc.  My oldest daughter wishes she was Japanese and she got me hooked on all things Japanese as well!  I LOVE this card and the adorable Peter Rabbit stamp!

From Turkey, TR-60407... another card with a train received on the same day!  This one looks like a fun park to go and play!

Received 3 cards on May 19, 2011...

FI-1073299... cute fluffy dog from Finland!  I actually received this same card when I first started Postcrossing - my oldest girl had it hanging on her bedroom wall before she went off to college!  I haven't seen that stamp yet from Finland - love it!

I freaked out when I saw this beautiful Mama Bear and her cub!!  So sweet!  They're from Russia...
RU-408906

Private swap received today, May 20th... very cool New York State card!

Cards Received May 14 and May 16, 2011

I received 3 cards last Saturday, May 14th and have neglected to blog or register them until now.  My bad?  I try really, really hard to register all my cards within 24 hours so I feel just a little guilty about being late this time.  I offer up my most humble apologies and this, my meager excuse... I didn't feel like it, I was tired.  Sometimes I just wanna do what I wanna do and nothing else, ya know?  All I did yesterday was watch movies with my girls, clean the house a bit, and then go grocery shopping.  Big excitement at Angie's house, I know!  I'm a party girl, what can I say?  :o)

Beautiful private swap from New Zealand - Wow!  "The splendid view of the Remarkable's with the Earnslaw steaming on Lake Wakatipu at Queenstown."

Private swap from Indianapolis, Indiana.  "Every Memorial Day Weekend race fans gather from the world over to see the latest in automotive excellence put to the ultimate test."  Very cool card to have even though I'm not a fan of that kind of racing.  I rather like NASCAR but really only for the crashes.  Lol!  I noticed the new USA postcard rate stamps.  "Sage" of the "Herbs" collection.  Pretty, but not very exciting.

LV-34428... The Dome Cathedral and its pipe organ in Riga, Latvia.  That is breathtaking!  Can you imagine sitting there and listening to the magnificence of that organ?  Wow.  I'd love it.

I received this one today, May 16th... from the Ukraine, UA-102091... World of Dreams... I love it!

Bye-Bye!

Cards Received May 12-13, 2011

Today is Friday the 13th - dreaded day of the superstitious!  It's actually been going pretty well for me.  Work went well and I'll work some overtime tonight.  My back feels better.  Hasn't rained yet (though the day's not over).  And it was a good mail day - just a postcard in the mailbox, nothing else!  No bills, no junk.  :o)

Yesterday was an even better mail day with 4 cards in the mail!  Here they are...

EE-100707... lovely from Estonia...

BR-150399... Oh if I was sitting on that beach with a nice frosty margarita in my hand...

Fabulous Piazza Navona in Rome, Italy - I love it!!  What a fabulous place!

FI-1088872 - A typical beautiful view of Suomi, Finland...

I received this one today, May 13, 2011...
MX-10520, an awesome multiview of Cholula, Puebla - muy bonita!  Some Postcrossers really hate multiview postcards because it's hard to see the small pictures.  I, on the other hand, LOVE them!  I can make them big on the computer for my old near-sighted eyes to see and I enjoy them immensely.  But then, I love all cards and am not hard to please at all.  :o)

Adios mi amigo,

Private swap from New Zealand...

Have fun!

Cards Received May 6-7, 2011

Today is Mother's Day evening and I'm tired.  Spent the day with 3 of my 5 lovely daughters.  The other 2 live out of state and are all grown up.  :o(  We had seafood and went to the beach at Lake Erie.  It was a really nice day!

MY-62889... a slogan "1 Malaysia" postcard...

DE-898676... another teddy bear card on the same day!  This one is a Margarete Steiff teddy bear from Germany.  Steiff bears are fabulous and very collectable.
